Abstract
You love arcade games and want to go higher and higher? - Cubed is an arcade game where you are a little kid, trapped in a nightmare dream. A pile of water is constantly rising and you need to escape from it. Why? In the deep water, there is a killer shark, ready to hunt you down. Get higher and higher, collect teddies to gain energy and beat the highscores of your friends! Are you ready for your next adventure? Are you ready to beat the highscore?

Over the course of one semester I had the honour to work with an excellent team on an arcade game. I proudly present you our gameplay trailer:

Experience
During this project I had to opportunity to learn how it is to work in a group, how one works together, and how a few individuals become a team. It's important in a team that everyone can feel safe to speak it's mind, definitely in the brainstorming phase, where no idea is a wrong one. But also that team members can talk to each other when they feel friction or when they think differently about something.
My addition to the team
During this project I had a few topics that I worked on.
- Player movement: jumping up and down but also walking. This was crucial to the game as it defined most of the gameplay.
- Camera movement: the camera needed to be swift as the player couldn't lose much time with looking but also couldn't be too fast.
- Happiness meter: the happiness meter is a mechanic that gives the player a bit of a time pressure but also the pressure to climb higher and higher, but with thinking of when it would use a jump.
- Leaderboard: one of the requirements of this project. Keeping up the highscores of the player and displaying it at the end.
- Reading and writing from file.
